War hero, 89, is badly beaten by burglars as millions remember the fallen
An 89-year-old war hero who risked his life for this country has been badly beaten by thugs trying to burgle his home.
Brave Bob Schofield was left battered and bruised after confronting intruders who broke into his house just hours after millions paid their respects to those who sacrificed their lives in warfare.
Mr Schofield was at home with his wife, Mollie, 87, when the couple were disturbed from sleep in the early hours of Monday at their cottage in Salterforth, Lancashire.
A former Royal Navy sailor who served on the dangerous North Atlantic convoys bringing aid to Britain's allies in Russia, he was punched repeatedly in the face and left lying in a pool of blood.
Our united armed forces liberated the world from tyranny.
Only to come home to tyranny.
