Went into J&R this morning and found some interesting developments.
That new Sylvania subnotebook has been dropped in price from its original whopping $450 down to $389. This makes it a good competitor to the original Asus EeePC 700 series.
The Asus EeePC 700 series has been dropped in price from $399 to $379. This includes the one that has Windows XP Home on it.
The Asus EeePC 900 with the 8.9" screen has the $100 mail-in rebate. Thus its $549 price becomes $449 -- if you ever get your money back.
That Sylvania is very tempting at that price. However: I got to see what Windows XP looks like on that small 7" screen and at that 800x600 resolution. It is a horror! So, the Sylvania would probably be best used with its included gOS Rocket installation.
No MSI Wind. And I didn't bother to ask.
What was eerie was the lack of people at J&R this morning. On other Saturday mornings I happened to stop in, there were noticeable people. This morning it was a ghost town. A sign of the crumbling economy or coincidence?
