Just as Nokia's climb to the top of the cellphone pyramid was an historical fluke, so too with Microsoft.
And just as Apple is sending Nokia into its well-deserved death spiral, the same will happen to Microsoft.
People are fed up.
And a US$300M propaganda campaign isn't go to keep that boat afloat. How did that big Zune intro campaign go, eh Microsoft?
Time is ripe for Windows-free initiatives
Still, IBM’s efforts are interesting to say the least. If nothing else they show how fed up a lot of people are with Windows—and show the door of opportunity that’s opened for Apple. As noted by Information Week, IBM, Canonical, Novell and Red Hat see Vista as opening the door for operating system rivals. Among the complaints of Vista is that it requires more powerful computers than those running XP, the previous version of Windows. As a result, many businesses have delayed upgrading to Vista until the end of their hardware life cycle. Now is the time for Apple to make its move.
Emphasis added by me.
What Microsoft still doesn't see is the incredible extent of their fuck-up. Instead of bringing in dollars, they've been reduced to dredging for pennies from cheap subnotebook makers. A move they didn't want to do except their sociopathic DNA won't allow Linux even on throwaway devices.
Keep rattling that tin cup, Ballmer. You monkeyboy you.
