Rare Behind The Scenes Of Major Book

The Lace Reader's Dirty Linen

This is something that's not often seen: A semi-detailed account of how nOObs -- I mean nOObs as in absolute Know-Nothing Waifs -- with a book manuscript are given a big hand by someone with expert knowledge, end up with an over two million dollar plus book advance, and then go on to basically shun the one who was the linchpin of their success.

It makes me really, really wonder now how many of those "self-published" to monstah advances books had an invisible publicist behind them.

It also makes me wonder how Advance Reader Copies can be handled with eBooks.
When we suggested that we send out 500 galleys to independent bookstores, Gary thought we were out of our minds... a far cry from the 20,000 galleys that were sent out by William Morrow.

Ah, well. By that time, bookstores will basically be selling souvenirs. Most likely Printed On Demand. (Oh wait. FedEx-Kinko's could do that!)
